How to Find the Best Facebook Marketplace Deals!

If you know my IRL then you know 99% of my house is from facebook marketplace or thrift stores. I absolutely love finding amazing one-of-a-kind deals online and usually get them for next to nothing! Today I am sharing exactly how I do it and some of my favorite pieces I have ever found. It’s one of the things I’m frequently asked about and I’ve done my best to share everything I know so that you, too, can find great things for your home.

When people come into our home, which is 99% furnished with mostly FB MP finds, we usually get the same comment "how do you find this stuff?!"

I will be the first to admit I spend a lot of time searching on Facebook Marketplace for gems around me. I do not always find one, and even sometimes when I do it is taken before I could get it!

Okay Aly, but "how do you find this stuff?!" Basically, in addition to the keywords I’m sharing with you below, I think it’s important to save items that are visually similar to what you’re looking for so that every time you open FB MP, great things appear in your feed and not diapers or something. Make sense?

This blog pst, I’ll break down the whole keyword topic and answering one of the most asked questions I receive about finding things on FB MP: what words did you search to find that?!

First and foremost, there’s sort of a keyword “formula” that I use when I search:

  • 1st word: usually “vintage” or “antique” (because they don’t make things like they used to :))

  • 2nd word: any brand, color, quantity or specifics you’re looking for. Including this really narrows your results but you also have a greater chance of finding exactly what you’re looking for

  • 3rd word: the actual item (i.e. chair, rug)

A few examples:

- Cane Back Dining Chairs

- Rattan Bookshelf

- Vintage Artwork

- Brass Coffee Table

- Wood End Tables

I always search with at least two words and if I’m looking for something specific, I’ll add in a third word. The results are too broad with just one word and you most likely will need to comb through hundreds/thousands of results to find anything decent, like at a bad garage sale.

I’ve found that it’s important to think outside the box with your terms because unfortunately, most people do not know they are selling.

A lot of the times even people selling dining chairs will just list them as chairs. So if you search dining chairs some may not even show up so I occasionally will break my two word rule and go for the classic search "chairs." Now be aware you may have to look through lots of listing but it may help you find what you are looking for.

Another tip: Broaden your search location. Usually with my searches I use the LOCAL tab and within 5-10 miles of my home. Sometimes if I am truly not finding anything I will move my location a little left, right or up and down to see if anything new comes up. If that doesn't help I will move it to 15 miles or something to find even more search results.

Also do not be afraid to make an offer even if the item is out of your price range, you never know they might say yes!

Hopefully this has helped you a little in your Facebook Marketplace finding journey! Let me know in the comments if you have any questions or share some of your finds off Facebook!

Recap of my best tips to find things on Facebook Marketplace:

  • save items similar to what you are looking for

  • use key words that help narrow down your search

  • search with at least two words describing the item

  • broaden your search area / location
